Message from Camp
Summer 2009
Two thousand kids will call Camp Chingachgook home this summer!
Included in that number are campers from our traditional resident camp, our community day camp, and our teen adventure trips. The summer program is really very similar to the one you enjoyed in your years as a camper or staff member. We still have reveille, taps and other bugle calls; polar bear swim; cabin clean up and chores; waiters; skill classes; free swim; great meals in the dining hall; lots of singing and cheers; 3-day hikes; and chapels, talent shows, and dances.
So the tradition continues. And your support of the Alumni Association keeps the tradition going at Chingachgook. Thank you for your support.
As a year-round outdoor center for schools and groups, we also serve another 11,000 students, children and adults during the school year. Our year-round offices are located right in the first floor of the dining hall and we hope you will stop in to visit us when you are in the area.
Our next improvement projects will focus on the waterfront with a new accessible dock and boat house (replacing the old Waterfront Headquarters). We are also building a new educational farm. We are trying to re-create the historic Phelps Farm that was in Pilot Knob before Camp Chingachgook. The farm will add to our program culture, as we will add gardening, animal care, and pioneer living-history programs in the years ahead.
Come back to Chingachgook for a swim or a hike someday soon. There never has been a more exciting time to stay in touch with YMCA Camp Chingachgook on Lake George.

"I have a conviction that a few weeks spent in a well organized summer camp may be of more value educationally than a whole year of formal school work."
