Chingachgook's Tradition of Chapel Lives on through the Generations
The spiritual component of the YMCA triangle and the Chingachgook experience reach deeply into
our soul. Quiet, respectful, and meaningful chapel programs are a vital part of the camp program.
Preparing for and producing the chapel is an exciting process every camp session. Unit
staff still lead chapel programs through songs, stories, music and devotions. Chapel themes may include love,
responsibility, friendship, teamwork, nature, respect, and our place in God's world. After 85 years, chapel is
still an important part of Camp Chingachgook.
Here's the Plan
The Alumni Association will develop a permanent outdoor chapel for year-round use at Chingachgook. The
Chapel site has been in use during summer camp for the last four years. A giant rock face is the backdrop on
a sloped hill that forms an amphitheater with a giant tree in the center. The site is off the Orange
trail just behind camp on the base of Buck Mountain.
The Alumni's plan includes landscaping and installing benches at the chapel,
which will accommodate the entire camp population of nearly 400. Watch for detailed site and construction
plans to unfold soon.
